Welcome to Jongchul Chae's Pages.

Hi. I have moved to a faculty position in Chungnam National University since March 2001 and the present page may be out of date (visit new homepage).

I have my educational background in astronomy in general. I got a PhD degree at Department of Astronomy in Seoul National University, and am now working for Big Bear Solar Observatory as a research scientist. I have been studying various kinds of magnetic activities in the solar outer atmosphere with the help of others' works ( ADS, ApJ, A&A, Solar Physics, JGR, and so on) and by analyzing new data obtained by space-borne observations ( Yohkoh, SOHO, TRACE , GOES and HESSI) as well as by ground-based observations (BBSO, NSO and MSO).

  • The heavens tell the glory of God.
    The skies display his marvelous craftsmanship.
    Day after day they continue to speak;
    Night after night they make him known.
    They speak without a sound or a word;
    Their voice is silent in the skies;
    Yet their message has gone out to all the earth,
    And their words to all the world.

    The sun lives in the heavens where God placed it.
    It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding.
    It rejoices like a great athelete eager to run the race.
    The sun rises at one end of the heavens
    And follows its course to the other end.
    Nothing can hide from its heat.
