UCMEO 93001 31117 1700/ 31117 60926 91442 3301/ 200// 223// 41018 31117 60900 90936 13101 10501 1111/ 99999 PLAIN BT LASCO and EIT observed a partial halo CME on 2003/11/17. The event was first observed in C2 at 09:26 UT as a faint loop front in the SE limb; by 09:50 UT a bright loop front filled the SE quadrant and by 10:50 UT the front spanned ~230 deg from PA 330 - 200, albeit faint in the N. The front first appeared in C3 images at 10:42 UT with maximal coverage of the C3 occultor by 11:18 UT. The mean plane-of-sky speed for this event was 1085 km/s at PA 155, with possible evidence for modest deceleration. The CME was probably associated with an M4.2 X-ray flare observed by EIT between 09:00 - 09:36 UT, centered at N01E31 with peak emission at 09:12 UT. GOES records this flare from AR 0501 between 08:55 - 09:19 UT with peak emission at 09:05 UT. A modest EIT wave and possible slight dimming were observed in association with this event. This event has therefore been determined frontsided. Note that filament channels to the S and W of the active region were activated during this event. Movies and images of this event will shortly be available at: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20031117 Best wishes, Gareth Lawrence. +----------PLEASE NOTE NEW EMAIL ADDRESS-----------+ Gareth Lawrence, grl@grace.nascom.nasa.gov SOHO-LASCO Operations Scientist, CUA, MC 682.3, Bldg 26, Rm 001, F: +1-301-286-0264 NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD 20771.
