UCMEO 93001 40412 1630/ 40411 60430 80842 0701/ 360// 133// 41454 40411 60354 80435 34616 10588 1222/ 99999 PLAIN BT LASCO and EIT observed a partial halo CME on 2004/04/11. The event was first observed in C2 at 04:30 UT as a very bright loop front above the SW limb. By 06:30 UT the front spans in C2 ~290 deg, from PA 70 - 360. The front first appeared in C3 images at 05:18 UT as a thick and bright loop front, the bulk of the ejecta developing mainly toward SW. The mean plane-of-sky speed for this event at PA 240 was 1454 km/s (based only in C3 data) and showing a slight deceleration. The CME was associated with an isolated C9.6 X-ray flare that GOES records from AR 0588 (by the time at S16W46) between 03:54 - 04:35 UT with peak emission at 04:19 UT. EIT Fe XII running difference images show signatures of the events between 04:00 UT and approximately 05:36 UT on NOAA AR 0588. Starting at 04:12 UT ejecta from that AR coming out toward SW can be seen. No dimming was observed in association with the event. This event has therefore been determined as frontsided. Movies and images of the event will shortly be available at: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20040411a Please note that on 2004/04/09 NOAA AR 0588 produced another X-ray event, this time a C2.8 X-ray flare between 20:13 and 21:02 UT with peak emission at 20:40 UT. By that time the AR 0588 was located at S16W29. By 20:30 UT, a feature most likely related to the event is first seen in C2 FOV, developing as a bright ragged loop front. By 21:54 UT faint extensions can be clearly seen in C2 spanning approximately 260 deg, from PA 100 - 360. The front is first seen in C3 at 21:08 UT above the NW limb. The mean plane-of-sky speed for this event was ~940 km/s at PA 211 as measured on C3 data. The CME event has therefore also been determined as a partial halo CME, frontsided. Movies and images of the event will shortly be available at: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20040409 Best wishes, Guillermo Stenborg +--------------------------------------------------+ Dr. Guillermo A.
