Big Bear Lake, California
July 28 - Aug 2, 2024
Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO) of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) held a Summer School at BBSO in Big Bear Lake, California, from July 29 – August 2, 2024, geared toward graduate students, postdocs, and junior researchers. The goal is to stimulate the interest of next-generation researchers in using high-resolution solar data taken with large ground-based telescopes (like GST and DKIST). Within one week, the invited speakers discussed how high-resolution solar data advance our understanding of our star in various aspects. We also offered a tour of the 1.6-meter GST facilities and tutorials on GST and DKIST data processing, calibration, and co-alignment with SDO/HMI data.
List of Invited Speakers
Wenda Cao (BBSO/NJIT), Gianna Cauzzi (NSO), Jongchul Chae (SNU), Satoshi Inoue (NJIT), David Kuridze (NSO), Jiong Qiu (MSU), KevinReardon (NSO), Matthias Rempel (HAO), Tom Schad (NSO), Haimin Wang (NJIT), and Vasyl Yurchyshyn (BBSO).
The speakers made keynote presentations to review small-scale magnetism and plasma flows, high-resolution spectroscopy and spectropolarimetry, data-driven MHD, magnetic reconnection, small-scale chromospheric activity and diagnostics, physics of solar flares, waves in the chromosphere, study of the Sun in IR, as well as GST and DKIST instrumentation.
